Evolving Trends in Web Designing

What is your objective when you design a website? Your answer to this determines whether you would shine or perish in 2011. The trends that would hold ground this year, and which are an improvement on last year, aim at creating the right balance between functionality and aesthetics.
Here is a quick peek at five of the continuously evolving web design trends and the reasons behind their popularity.
HTML5 and CSS3 – the technologies that came to the forefront in the last few years, are going to be major contributors to web designs this year too. However, popularity of these does not imply that they are going to replace the classic Flash.
Multiple View-ports – creating a website responsive to various viewing mediums is going to be one of the popular trends, merely because of its necessity factor. Your target is to attract all; and in this coming year, people who view your site on their mobiles and netbooks are sure to be more than those who view it on their PC.
Parallax Scrolling – using simple tricks, CSS and jQuery, designers are going to create a 3-dimensional effect, and a sense of depth, on the site layout. However, using this technique as a secondary element is a better idea; overdoing it would make it clumsy.
Adaptability to Touch Screens – depending on mouse-oriented navigation may be a costly mistake in web designing this year. The navigation is truly at the user’s fingertips (due to the huge popularity of touch screens). Using responsive layout, like liquid layout, is, again, a trend that evolves from necessity.
Depth Perception – 3D may not yet be a possibility in web design; however, creating an illusion of this makes it quite catchy. Conjuring the image is possible with the right use of techniques, e.g. light and shadow.
An attractive design may be able to entice a web user to visit it. However, if the functionality element is missing, the visitor is sure to leave your site and opt for some other. Eye-catching websites are good, but to excel in business, you need the right blend of visual appeal and utilitarian approach.
