When you visit a particular website on your web server you actually download the pages of the website from the web server to your web browser. So, if you called your website as a folder then all the pages of the website are actually the files in that particular folder. A website could be made up of number of pages which basically combined of texts and graphic images. Therefore to view the pages of any particular website all the pages of that website must be store in a special kind of computer which we called as a web server.

In simple speaking, storing the pages of a website in a web server is called hosting and the providers which provide this service can be called as a web hosting providers.

A well established web hosting providers can host more than thousand of websites. For that reason a web hosting company or providers need many web servers to store different websites. These web servers are connected with very high speed internet connection which is housed in a physical building which is called as data center. The data center is physically secure building or place with virus detections, HVAC temperature control, extra power backup, computer data backup, and complete accident recovery capabilities.

There are different types of web hosting companies with different characteristics. Some of them are listed below carefully:

  • Virtual web hosting – Virtual web hosting can also be called as shared hosting. It is so happen when more than one websites share the space in the same web server. A web server can host thousand of websites from the same server. But after some you experience slower response for the web server that probably possible when the web server could not support more websites for hosting for the same server.
  • Dedicated hosting – Dedicated web hosting is just the opposite of virtual hosting. In dedicated hosting one consumer would host their website from the server which could not be used by any other consumer for hosting their website. Thus, dedicated hosting could pinch your pocket little bit but you can host single or more one websites, manage the website traffic, scale bandwidth and modify the software configuration.
  • Co-location hosting – Actually in dedicated hosting the web server belongs to the web hosting company and the consumer only rent the web server for the hosting period. But in case of co- hosting company the web server belongs to the consumer but the hosting facility is provided by the hosting company.
  • Reseller Hosting – In a reseller web hosting the web hosting company offers their web server to another person in discount who can re sell the web server space to other consumer.
